Who are HR Employees?

Human resources can be considered as a department that includes many critical tasks such as the planning processes of an organization, the recruitment processes, the control processes, the evaluation processes and so on. In recent years, especially with the changing approach towards human ‘resources’ to human ‘value’, the department itself has evolved as well. In the relevant context, it can be said that human resources is responsible for the employees to embrace the organizational culture and be in a harmonious way with the other employees.

Why is HR matters for companies?

The human resources department sets strategies for the effective usage of talents in an organization. These strategies not only support employees’ career developments, but also assist the organization to gather around common goals and values. Considering the wide range of responsibilities the human resources department holds, it does come out as surprising that HR professionals have many competencies in various areas. In this spectrum, which extends from entry-level positions to advanced roles, HR employees are expected to have fundamental communication skills as well as empathy, active listening, organization and negotiation skills.

Challenges Faced by Human Resources Employees

HR employees, who are required to be a bridge of communication or sometimes a softening force between many departments, teams and structures due to their positions, may find themselves in difficult situations. As it may require for them to take on the role of mediator in team or departmental disagreements, HR employees stand out with their persuasion skills and ability to effectively manage emotions. In this context, negotiation skills are of great importance in managing daily negotiations in the workplace.

A Must-Have for HR Professionals: Negotiation

Resolving problems between employees or their conflict with the company based on win-win solutions can be considered as a daily task of HR professionals. The pilot program we implemented aimed to develop the constructive compromise approaches needed by HR professionals.

Designed with inspiration from Finland’s win-win-focused sopu approach, this program featured a highly interactive and engaging flow. Those who didn’t miss this first meeting of Sopu Academy programs with Turkey’s Human Resources community, which have been held in many countries around the world for years, had a valuable experience!

Flow of the Training

Our pilot program began with icebreakers and networking sessions allowing our participants to get to know each other better, while bringing HR professionals from different sectors and companies together. Following this, our trainer, Semih Ersöz, shared theoretical insights on negotiation and consensus building techniques. Participants then engaged in negotiation simulations based on provided scenarios, allowing them to practice what they learned, develop their skills, and receive feedback from each other.
